According to CAAInsider.com and i95ballerz.com, there is yet another recruit coming to Robert Morris to play basketball for Mike Rice...but he won't arrive until 2008.
6'3 160 pound guard Jason Burns is coming from Bishop O'Connell in Washington DC. Back at his welcoming press conference, Rice mentioned traveling to the DC/Baltimore area to recruit a point guard. Burns is that guard, but he can also play the 2-spot on the floor. He'll spend another year in high school, moving to Henry Wise High School in Maryland and continuing to play for the Triple Threat AAU squad in the DC Metro Area. The AAU squad is what helped Rice find Burns.

Senat and Bright Move On; Rice Has New Assistant
Mucho gracias to the usual tipsters for passing this information along. Colonials Corner isn't what it is without the help of some diehard Colonials fans passing along information that they come across. I do a lot of digging myself, but I don't catch everything, even if it's right under my nose. Thanks to all of you.
From the grapevine:
-Guard Eric Anthony has transfered to Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Anthony played only a handful of minutes last year under Mark Schmidt. He will have three years of eligibility should be choose to play for the D-3 team at Lycoming.
-As speculated earlier, Colson Senat has joined Derek Coleman as a Robert Morris graduate and will not be playing basketball for Mike Rice this fall. Senat transfered from Vanier College in Montreal two years ago and was well on his way to earning his degree. He graduated in May. Good luck to Colson as he pursues other endeavors.
-Also leaving is rising junior Kelvin Bright. Bright didn't get much playing time under Mark Schmidt and must've seen the writing on the wall on a very deep basketball team. Best of luck to Kelvin in his future.
-So with two more departures from the team, Mike Rice has two more scholarships available to give. He's already filled the holes with two more recruits. The first is guard Khalif Foster. Foster has good size and could back up at the point guard, shooting guard, and small forward positions. The second recruit is 6'7 230 pound forward William Royal, from Harmony Community School and a native of Harrisburg. Foster has much more information available on the web regarding his abilities and past exploits, while Royal appears to have less information about him. Doubtful that either will contribute immediately to the team.
-Finally, Coach Rice has officially revamped his entire staff. Jimmy Martelli, son of the great Phil Martelli (who happens to know Robert Morris President Gregory Dell'Omo and Mike Rice), will join the staff. Colonials Corner's source says that the lone holdover from the Schmidt days,Kevin Martin, is officially out, even though that link states he's still on the staff. Martelli joins Andy Toole and a third coach named Levi Franklin out of a high school in Virginia.
So with all of the information coming out today, here's how things stack up roster wise for the team:
C - Freddie Harris, Bas Rozendaal
PF - AJ Jackson, Iffy Ehirim, Dallas Green, William Royal
SF - Jeremy Chappell, Mezie Nwigwe, Khalif Foster
SG - Tony Lee, Bateko Francisco
PG - Gary Wallace, Jimmy Langhurst
I would wager that Royal and Foster could both serve redshirts this year, leaving Rice with an 11-man bench. We'll see what Rice decides.

Men's Basketball To Open Season Versus Iona
According to a press release from the RMU Athletic Department, new men's basketball head coach Mike Rice will make his debut in the season opener November 10th when the Colonials host Iona.
The release is located here.
The press release centers around a celebration of the 1982-1983 NCAA Tournament team, the first time ever Robert Morris went to the Big Dance. The alumni of that team will attend the final football game of the season against Sacred Heart in the afternoon and then stick around for more festivities before being honored during halftime of the basketball game.
Tipoff will be at 7pm on the 10th, the expected start time for every RMU game this year. Most women's games will be at 4:30 on doubleheader days and 7:00 on other days.
Most basketball schedules are still being processed and finalized, but Colonials Corner can confirm that Pitt will not be on the schedule. RMU will travel to Duquesne and host Canisius. RMU has finished its home and home series with New Hampshire and Maine.
Colonials could be continuing series against Youngstown State, Marshall, and Florida International, but nothing is definite.

New Faceoff Factor Going Live
The brand new, non-blogger version of Faceoff Factor is going live.
You can view the site at http://www.faceofffactor.com
Easy link is just to the right. You can catch anything hockey related on that website. I will post links here when there is information up regarding specific events involving Robert Morris.
As always, keep checking back here for everything else related to RMU. The summer months are quiet, but once August hits, there will be consistent updates!

More on Coleman in Europe
Finally! Some quality information regarding Derek Coleman's move to the Netherlands.
He will be playing for the top tier team of Upstairs/Weert, according to a news release from his agency. Click here for more information from Court-Side Agency. U/W made it to the quarterfinals last year in the premier Dutch basketball league.
Coleman will have a familiar face on the U/W team...fellow RMU graduate Chaz McCrommon just signed with the team after playing last season in Germany.
Congratulations and good luck to Derek Coleman.

St. Peter's Ends Football Program
The demise of the MAAC is complete.
St. Peter's has ended their football program.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2904419
The move, expected to be coming for a long time, virtually ensures that with Duquesne joining the NEC next year, LaSalle, Marist, and Iona will have to join other conferences. It is believed that Marist is close to either rejoining the NEC or joining the Patriot League.
The NEC could continue to expand with one or all of those schools joining. The Pioneer Football League could accept them as well, if they choose to remain without scholarships.

Coleman Signs in Europe
The Robert Morris Colonials are taking over Dutch basketball.
Chaz McCrommon has been over in Europe for a couple years. Derek Coleman is joining him. Coleman signed just the other day. I'm working on finding out which team Derek will be playing.
Hopefully DC enjoys the Netherlands and enjyos playing basketball at the professional level.
More as it comes.

Preliminary 2007 Football Roster Is Up
The preliminary 2007 football roster is up at the official website.
Some observations:
Some observations:
- DB Toheeb Akinola returns for an extra year of eligibility and moves from jersey #3 to Nate DiLorenzo's former #4.
- DB Jonathan Robinson also returns for an extra year and figures to be the de-facto starter at SS alongside WS James Kazil.
- Transfer students include 6-1/215 soph. fullback Noel Roman (Bayonne, JR); 6-5/340 junior DL Wenger Cherubin (Hieliah, FL); 5-8/160 soph. WR Vernon Pless (Miami, FL); 6-5/270 DL soph. DL Ken White (New Castle, PA).
- No mention of basketball turned football student-athlete Aaron Agnew on the roster.
- Prop 48 Raphael Johnson, a personal favorite of several Colonials Corner readers, is indeed on the team. He's #29 and listed at 5-8/175, hailing from Canton, OH.
- WR Frankie Probst is listed despite rumors about academic ineligibility. Here's hoping those rumors were either untrue or Frankie fixed any issues.
- Junior WR Regis Flowers has moved to tight end.
- Linebacker and defensive back are the deepest positions.

Meet Myles Russ
I rarely make bold predictions. It's just not my nature. But I'm going to make one now.
By the time December rolls around, everyone in the NEC and perhaps all of I-AA/FCS football will be talking about a freshman Colonials running back named Myles Russ. He will be labeled the steal of the recruiting process, with Joe Walton labeled a mastermind. And every D-I school that passed Russ up because of his size (5-8/5-9 and 170 pounds) will slink into the shadows and curse the day that they followed the same ridiculous guidelines for following quality players. That includes the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. Think Dave Wannstedt could use a combo RB/KR on his squad?
Don't believe me? Check this video out.
Footage of his work through four games in his senior season. He ran for 1,722 yards in 11 games, a 10.1 ypc clip. He did it against the best and largest teams in South Florida, against mostly 6-A competition. He was the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Big School Player of the Year.
The past tense is over. Myles Russ is a Robert Morris Colonial. Myles Russ will turn a lot of heads and twist a lot of knees.
